"Rails is omakase"

"Rails is omakase" (DHH, 2012)

Let the framework choose for you, like a sushi chef's tasting menu.

Omakase is the Japanese phrase for trusting the sushi chef to pick your meal. David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) used it in a 2012 essay to describe Rails’ philosophy: rather than make you assemble every component yourself, Rails serves a curated, opinionated default menu chosen by people who have cooked this before. You can still swap dishes, but the default is a considered whole. It is one of the most-quoted metaphors in the Ruby world. (dhh.dk, “Rails is omakase,” 2012)
